Ostra at Mokara Hotel & Spa is Alamo City’s premier location for National Oyster Day (Aug. 5, 2025) with a one-bite Gumbo Oyster and the return of their exclusive Shuck like a Chef event.

Available on National Oyster Day, Ostra will serve its innovative one-bite Gumbo Oyster – plump Gulf oysters charbroiled over an open flame until sizzling in their shells, then topped with a rich, dark-roux gumbo, and finished with a spoonful of fluffy Louisiana rice – creating a perfect, single-bite taste of the Gulf Coast. “When you charbroil the oyster, its natural briny liquor mingles with the smoky char from the grill. Using that as the base for a rich, savory gumbo creates an incredible explosion of flavor. It’s comforting and decadent all at once,” says Ostra’s Executive Chef Robert Cantu.

Also on National Oyster Day, guests still planning out their celebrations can dive headfirst into the world of oysters at Ostra’s exclusive Shuck Like A Chef event. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., expert and Executive Chef Robert Cantu will guide diners through a hands-on experience teaching the art of shucking oysters like a pro and sharing insider tips and tricks as guests crack into their one dozen oysters, featuring three different types of the shelled morsels. Whether guests are seafood enthusiasts or just looking for a fun culinary adventure, this event is perfect for oyster lovers of all levels. Attendees will receive complimentary valet, a Codigo Blanco Tequila cocktail, and a take-home oyster shucking knife.
