Kids, Summer and Fun, All Come Together at This Theatre
Kids, Summer and Fun Come Together for a ‘Magikal’ Summer
Kids, Summer and Fun Merge at Magik Theatre Summer Camps
Kids love summer for its promise of freedom, fun, and play. Little do they know of all the behind-the-scenes planning parents put in to make the school break exciting and educational. Luckily for families, Magik Theatre offers several ways to keep the artists of tomorrow entertained throughout the summer. Magik Theatre’s acclaimed, week-long, summer camps cover all facets of musical theatre, for kids entering first grade all the way through their senior year, and provide valuable experience in creative collaboration that will stay with them through the next school year and beyond.
Magik’s Summer Camps Have a Role for Everyone!
The Summer Camps at Magik Theatre will tackle four beloved animated films adapted for the stage: Finding Nemo, Madagascar, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King. Each week-long camp will use one play as inspiration for a final showcase where campers can dazzle their friends and families with all the new theater arts skills they learned from Magik’s teaching artists. In the “Theatre is Magik” program, elementary-aged campers entering first through fifth grades will learn the building blocks of musical theatre — singing, dancing, and acting, as well as create their own stories. Budding actors entering sixth through twelfth grade can hone their craft in Magik’s “Musical Marathon” camp, learning about the production process from auditions to rehearsals of scenes, music, and choreography, and putting it all together for the end of week performances . Back by popular demand, Magik’s Technical Theatre camp returns to introduce middle schoolers entering grades six through eight to the many elements of stagecraft that contribute to theatre magic, like lighting, sets, props, sound, and stage management, with masterclasses from Magik’s professional production staff. All camps feature a Theatre Arts TEKS-aligned curriculum that prioritizes social emotional learning strategies to build confidence and promote creativity. Each camp is held during the same hours and at the same location, making it a convenient option for families with more than one theater-loving kiddo!
Magik Empowers Young Leaders
In addition, Magik offers its Leaders in Training Summer program for rising sixth through 12th graders. This application-based program allows participants to get hands-on experience assisting Magik’s teaching artists with daily camp activities for two weeks. Upon completion of the program, LITs will receive a certificate in addition to stronger leadership skills and the pride of being camp role models.
Raise the Curtain on Boundless Creativity and Learning Without Barriers
Scholarships are available for campers of all ages, made possible by the Richard Rosen Scholarship Fund. Honoring Magik Theatre’s founder, the fund allows kids to explore creativity, build confidence and form lifelong friendships regardless of financial barriers. Donations of as little as $50 provide camp supplies for one camper, while $500 will send one child to camp for a week. As of this writing, all donations will be matched up to $3,500 thanks to Argo Group and Oxbow Development Group.
But hurry, Magik’s day camps are some of the hottest tickets in town and prone to sell out. View session availability here and secure your family’s summer fun today!
